Snow. I'm lovin'it.
What a great month this was ... our family is growing! Tash was saved
and baptized and another young couple has expressed interest in
membership. Sunday night's Bible
from the study has outgrown our conference room and we must meet Pastor
in the Ed building now. Our "prayer party" is tons of fun and is
well-attended, and I look forward to it every week. I'm also looking
forward to our new photo directory ... Silva and the team are doing a
great job of putting together a spectacular book ... be sure to sign up
soon and smile pretty!!!
Lets see--what else is going on--The deacons had a great training
workshop, with a wonderful turnout, and are planning another one the
first weekend in March. Following suit, the in the name trustees are
going to being doing training in mid-March.
Planning for Summer Fun is well underway, and looks to be a great thing
going on this summer. Yvonne from our school is our director this year,
with a great staff and a really neat program--I'll save more details for
them.
Lent also started up this month. I've never celebrated Lent before, so
this is another learning experience for me. I'm not planning a Lenten
series this year, but am continuing in our series of what the Church and
being a Christian is all about. I will, however, do something special
for the weeks around Easter--be here and see it! If you don't come for
them, at least come to see the celebrated luminarious Lucy Lamb, a rare
treat coming to us at great expense of time and resources...
Additionally, the first Lenten luncheon had a great showing, over 70
people by my count. Kevin Coffey from Atonement shared with us about the
angel Michael, and I thought it was fun and interesting. I encourage you
to come out, have a bowl of soup, and visit with our brothers and
sisters in Christ from our neighboring churches. It is certainly time
well spent.
Well--lots of love and coffee--Bob
ASSOCIATE PASTOR
My personal faith background is Presbyterian denomination. I cannot tell
everything about it now.
However, I can tell one thing. They are too quiet among worship service.
I don't mean that quietness is bad. We need to be quiet in front of God.
But quietness without appropriate responding to God also makes our
worship service not lively. At Korean worship service, we have a
'calling' time. At the end of worship service, I ask someone to come to
the altar. Someone to devote herself or himself to God, to be baptized,
to get my prayer, and to become a member of this faith community. Of
course, they don't respond every Sunday. However, when they respond to
the calling time, I am very glad to see them. Some people ask me to pray
for them. Others devote themselves to God again. If I, a minister, am so
glad to see the people to come, how much more will God be glad to see
them? I think God will smile and dance! God will bless them abundantly.
Let's give appropriate responding to God! Let's express our appreciation
to God among worship service! And God will bless us abundantly.
How can you say blessing in Korean? Korean word of blessing is 'chook
bok'. God in Korean is 'ha na nim'. God of blessing in Korean is 'chook
bok ha she nun ha na nim'.
I believe that 'chook bok ha she nun ha na nim' will bless us a lot when
we show our appreciation and responding among worship service. I
hope'chook bok ha she nun ha na nim' may be with you in your whole life.
Pastor Joseph
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME
Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead. Daylight Savings Time begins on
March 11th .
YOUTH PASTOR
I thought year 2007 just began couple days ago but the reality is quiet
different, first 2months have disappeared already. What a fast time is!
Some said each day is so slow but the week is so fast. I think that is
true because many times I said "Wow, it is already Monday again!"
I thought many times whether I have been using my time wisely or not,
and my new year's resolutions so far. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:16
"Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days."
God gives me A lot of opportunity which I can use for His kingdom and
for myself but whenever I look back I do not think I have used it
wisely. I have many things to do but I wasted a lot of time. So it is a
time for me to remind what I planned for this year for myself and for
the kingdom of God. Thank God who continually gives me another chance.
Last week (Feb. 23 - 24) youth group had lock-in and snow tubing. It was
fun to have it again. As usually we played video games and manhunt, I
think I need to provide more games for the next time so that we would
remember the lock-in for not only video games but also other fun stuff.
I am going to search the web to find nice games for youth. Snow tubing
was so much fun. The snow tubing lane in Campgaw is much better than it
is in Mountain creek. We had several new faces; Amanda, Babette, Bianca,
Meaghan and Joshua. I wished they enjoyed the time and they would come
again for the youth camp and other fun day.
BYF (Saturday night) meeting is going well. The last few weeks I taught
what we needed to seek as Christians; His righteousness. Even though we
claim that we are Christians but many seek their own desires and follow
earthly things; money, power, and so on, but the Bible clearly says that
we need to "seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness"
(Matthew 6:33). Jesus says this because God already knows what we need
for our lives so that we do not need to seek these things. Faith is not
merely believing God's existence but also trusting Him wholly and
leaning on him for everything. I hope all students would learn these
things before they leave their parents' arms.
Sincerely, Sung An

FROM THE SCHOOL TEACHERS
The Three Year Old Class
Mrs. Fanning/ Mrs. Bravin
February has come and gone. The three's learned that the
groundhog did not see his shadow, so Spring is coming soon.
Valentine celebration had our class talking about God's love and all the
people we love. We made lots of hearts and our room was full of pink and
red.
We are anxious for that first sign of Spring.
The Four Year Old Class
Miss Law/ Miss Padula
The "fantastic fours" have done so much in this short month
of February. We have done letters S,T, and U. The color of the month was
pink.
There was so much to do with such little time. It all started with
Groundhog's Day. The groundhog did not see his shadow, so that means
Spring is coming soon! We made groundhogs out of paper bags with a cute
little poem glued to the front.
For Valentine's Day, we made hearts with our pictures on it and wrote
who we love. We also made fish out of the shape of hearts.
For Chinese New Year, we made a scary paper bag dragon. Miss Law even
showed us the real dragons that perform in China town.
For Presidents Day, we studied and read books about George Washington
and Abraham Lincoln. We found out which presidents are on our coins.
As for our project, we painted red and blue stripes on white
construction paper to represent the United States of America and placed
cut out presidents on it. All of our fantastic four projects can be seen
in the classroom and also, out in the hall.
February is also Dental Health month. Dentist Jackie gave us some
excellent pointers to keep our teeth clean and we would like to pass
them on to you! Make sure you brush your teeth in circles, gums, and
tongue. Oh, and don't forget to floss.
The Four Year Old Class
Mrs. Craparo/Mrs. Pift
The children have been very busy this month. They learned the letters S,
T, U, and the sounds that they make. In math they learned the number 6.
We continue to work on counting and
recognizing numbers. The color of the month was pink. The children
continue to sing the color and alphabet songs. We made snakes, turtles
and a valentine mobile. We all enjoyed our Valentine's party. In Social
Studies the children learned about George Washington and Abraham
Lincoln. In religion we are talking about kindness. We are proud of all
the children.
The Kindergarten Class
Mrs. Wetzel/ Mrs. Devereaux
February was a short and busy month. The shortest month of the year. We
started off with Groundhog day. Since he didn't see his shadow, Spring
will be here soon.
We celebrated Valentine's Day on the 15'h because of a snow day on the
14t . Our class celebrated with a special "Love Bug" snack we made with
the help of Mrs. Lisa Schuldt.
We had a fun winter break celebrating Presidents week. Our class learned
about President Lincoln (16'h President) and President &am Washington (ist
President). We came back one day late because of the snow storm.
February is Dental Health month, we had visits from Dr. Madula, a local
dentist and Stretch, a dental magician. (Look our picture is in the Fair
lawn News).
Our letter for the last week in February is Ww ... W's for worship -
That's giving God praise and telling our love for ... all of our days.
